The two inventors of the bungee rope went to Spain to test their invention. They built a 50-foot tower and, once completed, one of the guys stood on the edge of the platform and dove into the air with the rope tied to his feet. The other guy, standing up on the platform, waited until his friend returned up so that he could grab him.

The first time his friend sprung up, he tried to grab him but missed and noticed that his head was swollen.

The next time, he missed again and again there was a bruise on his head and face.

The third time, with much concern, he dove forward to get his partner, pulled him in and asked, "What happened? Is the cord too long?"

His partner replied, with his face all bloody, "What is piñata?"

LOL !!!!!

Just a little trivia, but did you know that the idea for bungee jumping was formed from watching the land divers on the island of Pentacost in Vanuatu. This is a traditional ceremony whereby the men build very high towers and then when the ceremony starts they tie vines around their ankles and jump off the different platforms built into the tower. Only the very experienced jump from the very top. The ceremony is a part of the yam harvest and is held every year. It's quite terrifying to watch and still done today.

Below is a pic of one of the towers and you can see the tower is built on the top of a hill and the land at the bottom of the tower is dug away into a slope so the jumper lands on the softer soil and at an angle.

I've seen documentaries of that ceremony. It IS very terrifying. How in the world they ever came up with the idea in the first place is beyond me.

Now you have me interested Nan, I was just going to add "ROFL" to the joke, but now I have to research a bunch of stuff :(

1] How and why did this begin?

2] Where did the name "Pentecost" come from?
